Cappadocia is an ancient district in east-central Anatolia, situated on the rugged plateau north of the Taurus Mountains, in the centre of present-day Turkey.
The city is situated on a high, dry plateau in the middle of Turkey where the region is one of hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters.
The people of Cappadocia where people of unique tastes and interesting ideas as they actually lived in large, cone-like formations that were created over time by the gradual destruction of volcanic ashes. These natural structures are made of soft volcanic rock, shaped into towers, cones and much more. In the past, dwellings were made inside of these structures both underground and on the surface. Some examples include underground cities such as Derinkuyu and Kaymakli or castles like Uchisar.
